Why this exists.
The prep gap
01
Most candidates rehearse blind.
Reading question lists and rehearsing in your head doesn't prepare you for the panel.
02
Panels score against criteria you've never seen.
Specific competencies, weighted in specific ways, that almost no candidate has reviewed.
03
“Prepared” and “prepared correctly” are different things.
The gap between them is where careers are lost.
What FirstCall does
01
Practice out loud, on the clock.
Real questions, real timing — the way you'll have to deliver in the room.
02
Get scored on the same competencies panels use.
Composure, decision-making, communication, integrity, teamwork.
03
See exactly which side you're on.
Criterion-level feedback the moment you finish — not weeks after a rejection letter.
Every session, end to end.
01
Practice
Spoken-aloud answers, on the clock. Real questions, recorded, transcribed, and ready to grade.
02
Score
Every answer broken down by criterion. See exactly which parts you hit, which you missed, and what to fix on the next one.
03
Track
Competency averages across every session. Know where you stand before the panel does.
5–10 questions per session. Criterion-level scoring on every answer. Competency trends across all your sessions — so you know exactly what to fix before the panel.
No more guessing.
Walk in knowing exactly what panels are scoring.
Built for entry-level and lateral candidates — first attempt or fifth.
Generic prep books are static. Our questions are curated, updated, and randomized — closer to how real panels actually run.
Generic interview prep doesn't translate to fire service hiring. Different criteria, different rhythm, different stakes.
Reading questions in your head isn't practice. Out loud, on the clock, while being scored — that's practice.
A good answer in your living room isn't a good answer in front of a panel. Pressure changes everything.
Most candidates don't fail because they aren't qualified. They fail because they don't know what to fix.

Why I'm building this.
I'm an active firefighter. Before I got hired, I went through many hiring processes — different departments, different formats, different versions of the same panel asking variations of the same questions.
I learned the prep gap firsthand. The advice online is generic. The expensive coaching is opaque. And the actual scoring frameworks panels use have been around for decades — but no tool has built practice around them.
What I have is the candidate's perspective from going through it more than once — and the pattern recognition that only comes with repetition.
This is being built openly. Waitlist members shape what gets built and what changes.
The goal: make the prep tool I wish I'd had on attempt one.
Built on real methodology.
Anchor-based scoring.
Each answer is scored across multiple criteria, with anchor descriptions defining what a 0, 1, 2, and 3 looks like. The same rubric structure used in rigorous interview research — adapted for fire-service oral boards.
Fire-service competencies.
Composure under pressure. Decision-making. Communication. Integrity. Teamwork. The areas oral boards actually evaluate — sourced from real fire-service hiring criteria, not generic interview templates.
Criterion-level feedback.
You don't get a single “good job” or “needs work” rating. Every criterion is graded individually, so you see exactly which parts of your answer landed and which didn't.
Built openly. Refined by real candidate feedback before launch.
